Expert Tips to Keep Your Generator Running Smoothly

Our contracted customers know they can rely on our services day or night. To make it even easier to get the answers needed, we’ve created how-to guides for some of the more simple jobs to keep your generator running smoothly and error codes off.

We recommend that you read your owner’s manual for precise requirements and procedures that pertain to your genset. The information that we provide is never intended to supersede what is in your owner’s manual.

How to Check the Oil in Your Standby Home Generator

Manufacturers recommend checking your generator’s oil level regularly to help prevent low-oil shutdowns and reduce engine wear. As a general rule, check the oil before each run. If your generator is operating continuously, plan to check the oil at least once per day, and follow your manufacturer’s guidance. Some manufacturers recommend checking it after every 8 hours of runtime. Warning: Never check the oil with the engine running or hot.
